Flag Corps

Our Flag Corp meets after school from 3:15-4pm, the first Tuesday of every month.

Our new song for Tall Flags is "America the Beautiful" by Ray Charles.

America The Beautiful
TO KEEP IN MIND: This is a slow and graceful song! Move slowly, do not snap and rush your flag, stay in control. **Think ballerina! You’re a fairy dancing in the garden with your flower; your graceful, flowing freely, playing with your friends, and no one can see you!**  Total Track Time 3:34

:00-:17 (1.) All start lying on the floor, in an outward triangular pattern (heads together), with flags lying beside you, in your left hand. Start on beats (E&C, V&J, M&N).

:18-:22 (2.) “Oh Beautiful” sit up in a sit-up position, lifting flag pole parallel over heard into front of body. Stand up quickly and face bleachers.

:23-:43 (3.) Flourish to sides of gym. Around in front, around waist (spin around with), out to side on floor then slowly up and over and around front.

:44-:54 (4.) “And in mercy” Peter Pan slowly towards center, then prepare to up position.

:55-1:08 (5.) “America” Drop spins while weaving in and out of each other.

1:09-1:18 (6.) “Tis all success” move into stagger position. You can flourish your flag improv style.

1:19-1:29 (7.) “And every - talking” one at a time, starting with Emma, do parallel toss to start position.

1:30-2:27 (8.) “Oh Beautiful” DANCE 


1. Start position, lower flag to pole touching floor in front of you.
2. Slowly lift pole up and over your head, bring pole tip to floor behind you, turn your     body sideways to the left.
3. Turn in a circle with the flag in the floor. (like in the God Bless the USA, but just     pivot foot, don’t move).
4. Emma, Vanessa & Megan Flourish to center of floor. Nathalie, Claire & Jaclyn, skip     flourish to back by the stage and pick up one of each color of flag and wait for que (The big girls to step over their poles and stand still).

5. EVM: Lift pole straight up and twirl around, bring pole back down pointing to left toe, flourish in front, point pole back down to left toe.
Bring pole up to straight on left side of body and grasp flag, holding to pole.
Spin around, holding flag to pole and twirling pole around the top of your head.
Butterfly: flourish left side, left front, front, right front, right side.
Put your flags on the floor, tops down, then spin around on the pole and stand on the other side holding pole. Stand Still.

6. NCJ: With the three poles in your hands (both hands together) run through EVM to the front of the gym!
Twirl around like a ballerina and let the three flags flow above your head. Move one flag to one hand, leave the other two in your stronger hand. Then flourish them in front (hands going in opposite directions), turn around with your back to the audience and flourish again in front of your body, then turn back around, point your hands to the left and run around the big girls back to the back to the stage again. And put down the extra flags and wait for que. (At the big girls brew toss, skip out to line position).

7. EVM: Figure 8, then:
Vanessa do favorite flourish while Emma & Megan put poles down in front of them. Vanessa pass your flag to Meg when done. Meg do favorite flourish and pass to Emma, Emma do favorite flourish and toss pole back to Ness.
*Meg, pick up your pole and step forward one large step after passing pole.
*Emma pick up your pole after toss.
When ready! Large brew toss together. Catch and move into line position.

~2:28 (9.) “I wish I had someone”  In straight line back. 5 drop spins. C,J&N to left; EM&V to right.

~2:50 (10.) Move into stagger position. NJC follow Nat to left in circling back to stagger position. EVM follow Emma to right in circling back to stagger position.

3:15-3:34 (11.) One at a time, starting with Emma, do brew toss to start position.
